How not to choose a new telecom supplier?

There are different price levels in telecom land.

The prices of KPN and the alternative new suppliers differ.

The big difference in prices between KPN and the alternative suppliers causes some people to look constantly look for the lowest price. It is, of course, nice to always have the “lowest price” but actually it is impractical.

There are more than 200 telecom suppliers in the Netherlands. Each one changes its prices regularly. Some change their prices once a year, some once a month. This means that every year there are more than 700 pricelists. In order to have the lowest price you will have to constantly check these lists and constantly move from one supplier to another. This is absolutely not practical. Further, the most important aspect of saving on your telephone calls is changing from KPN to alternative suppliers because the prices of KPN are so high. Once you are with an alternative supplier the difference between several alternative suppliers is small.

For example, a call to China will cost you 89 cent/min. with KPN. With an alternative provider this can be as low as 6 cent/min. Then later, even if you see a better price of say 5 cent/min. it doesn’t matter, you have already cut your cost by more than 90%. Also perhaps your present supplier will reduce its prices later.
